What Does CALM Mean in Autism?

We are all familiar with the usual demands:

"Calm down!"

"Quiet hands. Quiet Feet."

"Please, show me you are listening with your whole body."

But as school professionals, occupational therapists, and parents, we KNOW that some children (our sensory-sensitive and sensory-seeking kids) struggle to keep their bodies still. These children and teens actually benefit from sensory supports and a sensory library of activities to enhance their attention and learning.

In today's blog post I am sharing with you my TWO NEW VISUALS . . . all about thinking about CALM in a whole new way! This novel paradigm proposes that children can attain a calm state of self-regulation when they are rocking, talking, singing, pacing - you get the picture! Scroll down to find these visuals to share with parents, friends, and teachers!
